LOCATED IN: St. Pete NOTES FROM FOSTER FAMILY:
Freckles Clair, a/k/a "Mama", is a VERY SPECIAL GIRL. We estimate her age to be about six years. She came to one of our foster homes via a trip to Alabama
where Freckles was wondering homeless in a neighborhood and never claimed by an owner.
She has loved being around all the dogs in her foster home over the years, but seems to take on the roll of mothering everyone. This has been a blessing for many dogs that Freckles has taught to play and interact properly with the dogs and cats in her foster home. So much so, that her foster mom never considered giving her up. There are many dogs that have been able to find loving homes because Freckles has taken them under her wing and taught them to play and share properly with other dogs. When she fostered kittens, she would lay on the floor while the kittens pounced all over her, played and snuggled against her. She also protected the kittens from other foster dogs that thought they were play toys, She would guard the kittens by walking back and forth in front of them and the other foster dog until the foster dog learned that the kittens were ok to be there. It was an amazing thing to watch nature take its course as Freckles taught her foster mom that she was there to help her save lives. She deserves just as much credit as her foster mom for all the homeless dogs & cats that were saved over the past four years.
Lately Freckles seems stressed out by having too many dogs around and her foster mom has decided that it is time for her to retire to a home where she will get the full attention she deserves.
Her foster mom writes:
I cannot say enough wonderful things about my Freckles Clair. She is the most special dog that I have had the joy of caring for and loving. I've had to put my selfishness aside for what is best for this sweet girl and find her a home where she can relax and just be a family dog with less responsibility.
For four years she has served as a mascot to my rescue efforts. She would go to adoption events wearing a dress with pockets and collect dollars for her foster siblings. Anytime she has come in contact with people she rolls over on her back for belly rubs. Children are her favorite of all the people. Small and large, Freckles wants a human brother or sister to love, guard and and sleep on their bed at night.
She loves cats, as well. If I had to give her a negative point for anything, it would be her misunderstanding of her size. She is not an overly energetic dog, but does get excited with new people or when you come home. She wants to jump up on your belly to greet you. I think in a calmer environment she could be taught not to do this. I've not taken the proper imitiative to train her on this. So, that is completely my fault. And just another reason that justifies my rehoming of Freckles. She deserves an owner that has the time to dedicate to her and love on her. It is not fair that she has to share her human with so many other needy dogs, although she has patiently done so for a very long time.
I've never had a dog that understood me or had human tendancy such as Freckles. It blows my mind how smart she is. She wants to please me so badly and seems very upset when she is corrected.
When it is time for everyone in our home to eat, Freckles will wait patiently to be the last one fed and do so without bother other dogs who are eating before her.
She does not like bad weather. She will tremble in fear and try to get in your lap for protection.
She needs a yard to run and play in when her family is home, but she MUST be an inside dog. She wont disappoint with this because she is com
